Highway Dispatcher


  • Minimum of 2 Years’ experience in a Trucking Dispatch role (or related role within transportation industry)
  •  Comprehensive knowledge of DOT rules and regulations as related to the operation of a CMV.
  •  Comprehensive knowledge of MTO rules and regulations as related to the operation of a CMV.
  •  Comprehensive knowledge of CBP & CBSA rules and regulations as related to import/export of commercial goods (Processing ACE/ACI clearances through Border Connect)
  •  Comprehensive knowledge of Load Link software.
  •  Comprehensive knowledge TMS software (experience with LTL Link Dispatch an asset)
  •  Comprehensive knowledge of Q-Tracs Communication and HOS software an asset
  •  Proficient in Microsoft Suite (including Word, Excel and Outlook)
  •  Must be competent in the operation of basic office equipment (telephone, calculator, copier, fax and printer).
  •  Comprehensive knowledge of rating both LTL and FTL shipments
  •  Geographical knowledge of Southwestern Ontario and the USA is required
  •  Must possess strong negotiation skills
  •  Read, speak, write, and type English fluently.
  •  A superior ability to pay attention to detail is paramount to success.
  •  A high level of mental recall is a must.
  •  Ability to problem solve under pressure in an ever-changing environment of customer and driver requirements.
  •  Must be capable of multi-tasking in a high pressure fast paced environment.
  •  Must be able to work unsupervised, alone or in a group setting.
  •  Must be able to function in an environment that is both physically and mentally demanding.
  •  Must be able to make decisions at a moment’s notice based on required knowledge listed above.
  •  Flexibility with shift to cover other positions as needed.


  •  Manage relationships with customers and drivers.
  •  achieving customer satisfaction while operating within all regulations.
  •  Successfully source/book LTL and FTL shipments.
  •  Correctly/Efficiently schedule and route freight pickups and deliveries as required.
  •  Maximize utilization and revenue.
  •  Update customers and assist with tracing as required.
  •  Reconciliation/Auditing of all trips required by way of completing trip reports.
  •  Monitoring and responding to driver satellite messages.
  •  Communicate effectively with drivers regarding scheduling/planning/company policies as well as day to day contact regarding load details/inquiries via call/text/email.
  •  Communicate with co-workers including other dispatchers, maintenance personnel, safety personnel, driver services, administration, and management.
  •  Field upward of 30-40 telephone calls per hour during peak times.
  •  Process all incoming email in a timely fashion, upward of 200-400+ per day during peak times.
  •  Some after hours on-call required, driver/customer needs outside of regular business hours.
  •  Conflict resolution with customers and drivers.
  •  Perform other duties as assigned by management.
